Here we will explain the purpose and current mission of our organization.

Organization Purpose

The purpose of this organization is to convince the City of New York to establish a greenway on an abandoned railroad right-of-way that extends from Rego Park to Ozone Park in central Queens. This linear park would link several communities with Forest Park and the recreational spaces of Jamaica Bay, including the Shore Parkway path, Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and Gateway National Recreation Area. Currently, this property, overseen by the City, is used only for illegal dumping of refuse. Establishment of a greenway on it would transform an unsightly and in many places hazardous property into safe, attractive and useable public parkland.

Our Mission

At present, our mission is to gather public support for such a greenway, especially in the communities through which the right-of-way extends. These are: Rego Park, Forest Hills, Woodhaven, Richmond Hill and Ozone Park. Once we can demonstrate widespread public support, we will pass the message along to city government and press for action. If you support our proposal, we urge you to contact us to find out how you can help, especially if you live in one of the afore-mentioned communities.
